Enon Volunteer Fire Department was awarded Chesterfield County's Fire Company of the Year for 2003, 2004, 2005, & 2006
The first fire station in Enon was built in 1949, thanks to the efforts of the citizens; who went as far as building the block and foundation themselves.
The first engine was a 1941 navy truck, which was converted into a pumper. In 1962, the station received their second and third pieces of equipment. In 1964, the station was relocated due to the widening of Route 10. The new station was a nice brick station with three bays and a large meeting room and kitchen. Later the station got a 4th bay, a boat house, a recreation room and a bunk room.
Today the station consists of two Mack diesel pumpers, one 2000 gallon Tanker, one 4-wheel drive brush truck, a fire chief's car, a 4-wheel drive manpower vehicle a Fire Boat with a 4-wheel drive tow vehicle. Enon Volunteer Fire Department assists the county's 19 other fire stations as well as the cities of Hopewell, Petersburg and Richmond, along with Prince George and Henrico Counties.
Most members are trained Emergency Medical Technicians, and every member is CPR Certified. We proudly display an "alligator" as our mascot, symbolizing the "swamp people," which we have jokingly been called for so many years by our friends and co-workers in Chesterfield County.
